About the Position
Hiring immediately, full-time Communications Director to support SEIU Local 105 based in Denver and Aurora, Colorado. 

This position will be a part of launching a new department and building a team to meet the communication needs of our organization.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Lead strategic communications planning for Local 105’s organizing and political campaigns (planning retreats, strategic documentation, action plans, field communications etc.)
  • Work in collaboration with other Directors to ensure execution of strategic communications plans across Local 105 campaigns
  • Work with the Communications Specialist to maintain an internal and external communications calendar
  • Developing member storytelling for internal and external promotion
  • Leading media and communications trainings of leadership, staff, members and prospective members
  • Planning and execution of major Local events, especially those that require a media presence
  • Drafting and placement coordination of op-eds, letters to the editor and other earned media placements/features
  • Leading in the development of and implementation of organizational and campaign email and texting campaigns, including peer-to-peer and mass distribution platforms
  • Leading the development and design of digital content and managing engagement across numerous social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science degree in Communications or another related field.
  • 5-7 years of related work experience that would provide for the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Excellent writing, verbal, and analytical skills;
  • Understanding of nonprofit and/or progressive campaign communications strategies;
  • Proficiency in designing and implementing digital and social media strategies;
  • Ability to think proactively and seize on opportunities to move our message forward;
  • Knowledge of paid media strategy and experience creating effective paid media;
  • Ability to frame issues for specific audiences and develop effective advocacy materials;
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet established deadlines;
  • Demonstrated commitment to social and economic justice.

Preferred skills:

  • Ability to speak and write Spanish is preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience supervising staff.
  • Familiarity with unions, the progressive political movement and/or healthcare policy is preferred.
  • Proficiency in the production of digital, print and audio-visual materials.
  • Experience working with WordPress, VAN and NGP EveryAction preferred.
  • Management and production of photographic assets. 

Compensation:

  • Salary in the range of $75,000 – $89,000, commensurate with experience.
  • Competitive, fully employer-funded benefits package provided for full-time employees and eligible dependents, including health, dental, vision, and prescription coverage, as well as employee short-term and long-term disability coverage and pension plan.
