External Organizer
Growth Department

Based out of SEIU 775 HQ in Seattle, WA


Summary: Organizers in our Growth (new organizing) department at SEIU 775 help workers form unions by identifying and developing worker leaders, by supporting worker action, and by mobilizing members and the community to support a pro-worker agenda. Growth organizers work in coalitions with other unions and community groups to support low-wage worker organizing across industries and across the region and country. Through this work, the organizer will advance the goals of SEIU 775 - lifting caregivers out of poverty, transforming health and long-term care, building strong and sustainable worker organizations, and reducing inequality and increasing prosperity for all working people. SEIU 775 is the long-term care workers union, representing more than 40,000 home care and nursing home workers across Washington State and Montana.

Reports to: Deputy Director accountable for external organizing
Location: Based out of SEIU 775 HQ (Seattle)

Qualifications: Personal commitment to justice for working people. Bilingual or multilingual fluency preferred.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A drivers’ license, a car, automobile insurance, and a smart phone
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Basic computer literacy and a willingness and ability to learn the organization’s technology tools
  • Willingness to work long, irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, including overnight travel and assignments
  • Willingness and ability to travel for days, weeks, and sometimes months at a time
  • Strong personal planning, motivation, and time management skills and ability to work with people from other cultures and backgrounds
  • The ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment are considered key components to achieving organizer performance standards
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds/cultures
  • Ability to work independently as well as on a team

Compensation: Salary and benefits are set by collective bargaining agreement, and range from $52k - $72k a year (Actual placement on pay scale DOE). 775 staff enjoy top notch benefits including comprehensive health benefits, major medical, dental and vision for employee and eligible dependents, domestic partner benefits, auto & cell phone allowance, ORCA Transit card, generous holidays and vacation policies, and both a pension plan and a 401(K) Plan.
