Associate Director
Research and Policy

The 1199SEIU Training & Employment Funds provide education and job training programs for over 40,000 unionized workers represented by 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East. Our mission is to develop high quality training, placement and labor-management initiatives. We also aim to develop the ability of union and management to problem-solve difficult issues and to create innovative healthcare solutions.

If you’re ready for the brightest career future, join us in this excellent opportunity to showcase your talents. We are currently seeking an experienced Associate Director, Research and Policy for our Executive Department.

Responsibilities:

  • Initiate and oversee research work; supervise and recruit research staff as needed, and oversee policies
  • Develop the research capacity by managing centralized research resources, and lead research projects, generate reports and publications based on research findings
  • Identify potential collaborators, and advise Training and Employment Fund (TEF) and leadership on research strategies and approaches
  • Keep TEF leadership and staff informed of emerging trends, innovations, and best practices in the health care industry, higher education and adult learning theory
  • Monitor information from news channels, healthcare regulatory bodies, higher education and health care journals; develop and deliver materials through a variety of communication channels
  • Develop the capacity of TEF by analyzing and interpreting qualitative and quantitative data, using robust methods for researching, and evaluating
  • Develop and deliver educational seminars, presentations, and workshops
  • Review and analyze academic and other literature based on methodical and replicable search strategies
  • Identify new topics and work with the development staff to obtain funding for proposals supporting policy, and relevant research projects that employ a range of research methods
  • Undertake continuous professional development which contributes to knowledge and skill within the subject area
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned by management
  • Must meet performance standards including attendance and punctuality

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Policy, Education, Research or equivalent years of experience required; Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum eight (8) years experience in research or evaluation required; to include minimum four (5) years supervisory experience required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
  • Strong background in research protocol development, qualitative and quantitative data collection, statistical analysis and reporting
  • Knowledge of health care systems and policy, quality improvement, program evaluation and adult learning theory
  • Ability to coach staff on conflict management and team building interventions
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal, presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, plan and coordinate work in a time sensitive environment
  • Exceptional organizational, project and time management skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
