Accounting Manager

Job Summary: Under the direction of the Controller, the Accounting Manager oversees payroll management, assists bookkeepers and clerks with various accounting, reporting, system and process tasks and assists Controller with GL, financial reporting and compliance functions as requested.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The Accounting Manager oversees full cycle payroll management and participates in the supervision of basic accounting functions. The Accounting Manager maintains regulations, laws and general GAAP procedures within the department and possess strong analytical, problem solving and project management skills. In addition, the accounting manager communicates effectively with and directs employees while maintaining a positive working relationship.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Manage full cycle payroll using ADP software
  • Prepare, process, and print manual checks as needed
  • Prepare and submit payroll financial reports to Controller
  • Maintain accounts by verifying, allocating, and posting transactions
  • Supervise general accounting functions including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, expense reimbursement, and bank reconciliations
  • Assist Controller with general ledger entries, reconciliations and financial reporting
  • Assist Controller with supervision of mandatory federal, state and union reports
  • Assist in automating processes and procedures
  • Assist with financial audits
  • Ability to review contract documents for terms and conditions
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Minimum five years of accounting experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Two years of management experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge and proven application of GAAP accounting principles
  • Knowledge of DOL union regulations
  • Proven skills in QuickBooks, CONCUR and ADP software
  • Experience managing accounts receivables and payables
  • Experience in full cycle payroll processing
  • Knowledge of union member accounting processes and procedures
  • Ability to manage the reconciliation of multiple bank accounts
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word & Excel
  • Skilled in the generation, analysis and interpretation of financial and accounting reports
  • Works well under pressure and with tight deadlines
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Highly skilled in General Ledger and Journal Entries
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail
