Founded by a private practice physician in 1972, over the last forty years the Union of American Physicians and Dentists has grown into the largest union representing licensed doctors in the United States. UAPD members in Washington work for the MultiCare healthcare system and the Swedish/Providence health care system, in both hospital and urgent care settings with new campaigns spread across the region. Affiliated with AFSCME and the AFL-CIO, UAPD is proud to bring the strength of the labor movement to the aid of working doctors and providers in the interest of better healthcare for all. The majority of work will be in the Seattle/Tacoma area with some periods of extended travel possible.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a negotiator position with organizer duties.


  • Negotiate first contracts in the private and public sector with a clear strategy as part of the organizing team from proposals through strike preparation
  • Conduct worksite, informal discipline, grievance, and labor management meetings
  • Help with public campaigns including outreach to local labor councils and other allies
  • Work with a small team to plan and execute contract campaign strategy
  • Build organizing committees through leader ID and strong leadership development
  • Build a supermajority union support through one on one organizing conversations and building strong relationships in order to move workers to action
  • Research legal arguments for campaigns
  • Move the agenda and programs of UAPD, including participation in rallies and other activities
  • Participate in electoral and lobbying duties
  • Prepare and maintain work plans, calendars, files, reports and other records on a weekly basis


  • Ability to work with and develop member leaders to identify issues, strategize solutions, and build power to secure desired changes in the workplace

  • Willingness and ability to work long and irregular hours, including evenings and weekends

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience organizing in healthcare settings
  • Experience and knowledge of computer programs (including word processing, spreadsheet and database software)
  • Experience negotiating collective bargaining agreements in the private sector
