The Maintenance Cooperation Trust Fund (MCTF) is a California statewide watchdog organization that works to abolish illegal and unfair business practices in the janitorial industry. Working with enforcement agencies, the MCTF drives the process of enforcing the law to expose the unfair advantage lawbreakers’ gain over their law-abiding competitors. Over the years, the MCTF has been effective in exposing systemic unfair business practices and rampant exploitation, such as wage theft, and other criminal behaviors that destabilize industries and violate workers’ rights.

The MCTF is currently searching for a Researcher/Database Analyst based in Los Angeles who will travel throughout the State.


  • Provide quantitative and qualitative research for company, sector and industry profiles;
  • Provide tactical research to the field and legislative teams as needed (company, legislative, assets, et al);
  • Monitor press and other public documents on key companies, industries, clients and regulatory agencies;
  • Research, write and edit research products including reports, presentations, issue briefs, fact sheets and other educational and advocacy materials;
  • Identify and analyze employment trends, regional issues, new construction, donor/fundraising efforts, etc.;
  • Track, research and monitor corporate compliance to legislative and regulatory initiatives and standards;
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with Trustees (both corporate and union) and regulatory agencies;
  • Contributes to strategic research planning;
  • Prepares memos and papers to communicate research outcomes;
  • Attend and report back on relevant meetings; worker, legal and contractor related meetings;
  • Assists in development and maintenance of customized databases, research systems and research methods;
  • Participates and may lead in political, legislative or regulatory initiatives and meetings.


  • Intimate familiarity of the janitorial industry;
  • Two or more years of work experience as an advocate, investigator or organizer;
  • Experience working with team members in distant locations;
  • Fluent in Spanish and English;
  • Strong research skills and knowledge of data collection methods
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages;
  • Commitment to transformational change, worker rights, civil rights and social justice;
  • Excellent organization, communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills;
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.);
  • Experience working in diverse environments;
  • Prior experience with database use and maintenance preferred;
  • Ability to work long and irregular hours and travel throughout the Country;
  • Ability to work independently
  • California Driver’s License, Car insurance and reliable car required.
