Director of Scheduling

Based in Washington, DC

Annual Pay: $104,389

The position is responsible for managing most aspects of scheduling for the President of SEIU including the planning and organization of daily and long-range schedules and coordinating with internal and external individuals and entities on related events, activities and programs that will support the participation and work of the President.


  • Manages daily schedule of the President;
  • Communicates with internal and external entities to clarify the purpose of invitations and coordinate local logistics;
  • Solicits, collects and organizes ancillary documentation and materials needed to support President's participation in meetings, events and activities;
  • Communicates with other key staff in prioritizing and developing daily calendars, to research requests and invitations, and to collect and organize all pertinent information needed to make scheduling decisions;
  • Maintains system for processing follow up for the President;
  • Works with Executive Secretary to ensure that travel, accommodations and local logistics are confirmed;
  • Supervises Executive Secretary responsible for the President;
  • Communicates and coordinates with key staff and advisors to the President to ensure strategic and effective use of President's time and schedule
  • Preparation for and participation in regularly calendared scheduling meeting;
  • Performs general management, administrative and/or supervisory functions as requested;
  • Travels with the President on a regular basis; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Senior SEIU staff; SEIU International Officers; Political, Community and Union leaders and other key staff.

Direction and Decision Making:
This position reports to the Assistant to the International President. This is a management position, with significant impact on senior-level decisions. Must be able to collect, synthesize and analyze data and information necessary for decision-making.

Education and Experience:
Five-Seven (5-7) years of progressively greater responsibility preferably in a political, union or issue-driven environment or a combination of relevant educational and work experiences.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of SEIU goals, unions and/or other advocacy organizations.
  • Ability to track and manage detailed information
  • Experience working with leaders and staff in all levels of an organization
  • Strong oral and written communication skill
  • Self-starter with high level of individual motivation and willingness to work in a team environment
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and perform successfully in a high-pressure and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to interact on a peer-level with senior staff at SEIU, other unions, political representatives, business community and community base organizations in order to develop and maintain positive relationships
  • Ability to efficiently analyze situations in order to make timely decisions
  • Extremely attentive to detail

Physical Requirements:
The work of this position often requires efforts beyond traditional business hours. Work is generally performed in an office setting. Will require some travel and in other settings necessary to perform the tasks required to complete assignments.
