The San Diego Education Association (SDEA) is the union of certificated educators in the San Diego Unified School District. SDEA has an immediate opening for a Field Representative/Organizer.

Salary/Benefits

Starting Date:  August 1, 2019

Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibility to serve as organizer and field representative in union organizing, advocacy, and bargaining activities.
  • Provide assistance, and consultation, in the development of training programs for SDEA members, leaders, committee chairs and officers.
  • Collaborate with the community, political establishment, labor unions and other stakeholders to support public education.
  • Ability to think critically in planning for future actions and activities of the union.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA or higher degree. Teaching experience in pubic schools preferred.
  • Experience with, and a broad understanding of, professional teacher organization programs and services at local, state and national levels.
  • Demonstrated ability in effective oral and written communications, development of internal/external publications, and media relations.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability in working with educators.
  • Successful experience with and demonstrated skill in organization and coordination of complex group projects and activities.
  • Documented experience with, and a broad understanding of, labor unions in general, and education/teacher unions in particular.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability in working with union members and other groups.
  • Successful experience with and demonstrated skill in the organization and coordination of complex projects and activities.
  • Broad understanding of the critical issues and problems facing public schools and labor unions.
