Organizer

Term: 6-month contract with opportunity to extend.

About the Campaign: Musicians working in the film and television industry are launching a nationwide campaign to raise awareness about their work and to win a new contract that preserves good jobs in the studios. Though you’ve undoubtedly heard them play, these freelance musicians are largely unknown: working behind the scenes to bring films and television series to life with music.

Job Description: The primary duties of the Organizer will be to have challenging conversations with musicians and to identify, recruit and develop musician-leaders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Educate professional musicians about contract issues
  • Conduct effective recording session visits, 1-on-1 meetings, and house calls
  • Identify, recruit and develop musician leaders
  • Organize workers and worksite actions
  • Participate in contract campaign meetings, actions, events
  • Maintain accurate lists
  • Update notes and data daily
  • Communicate with Campaign Director and Lead Organizer

Job Requirements:

  • Commitment to social and economic justice
  • Strong social, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, ability to work as part of a team
  • Strong Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet)
  • Strong planning, time-management and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work long and irregular hours
  • Possession of a valid US driver’s license, proof of auto insurance and an automobile for business use.

Preferred candidates will have:

  • Experience in a labor or community organizing
  • Experience in political organizing
  • Prior experience in comprehensive campaigns
  • Willingness to work with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds
  • Experience as a professional musician

Compensation: Salary is competitive, health, dental benefits included.
