SEIU USWW has an Internal Organizer position available immediately, based in Orange County, CA. This is a posting Internal Organizer I, in Orange County, California pursuant to the BSSU Collective Bargaining Agreement

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is our country’s fastest growing labor union with more than 2 million members. We are on the cutting edge of bettering the lives of low-wage service workers and taking on the larger issues that impact their lives from healthcare to education to immigration. The United Service Workers West (USWW) is comprised of 45,000 property service workers from San Diego to Sacramento. Our union brings together janitors, security officers, residential, stadium, airport workers and entertainment arena. These workers are the heart of our union and through their activism the hope for a more progressive California.


  • Organize members around worksite issues and coordinate worksite actions in the field
  • ID, recruit, and develop leaders that build organization at their worksites
  • Participate in negotiations and contract campaigns
  • Perform regular worksite visitations and conduct site meetings
  • Be a direct liaison between members, the Member Resource Center, and the employers
  • Effectively resolve worksite disputes and problems of membership
  • Participate in worker/steward trainings
  • Lead mobilization and turn-out for actions, meetings, trainings, and political campaigns
  • Maintain accurate worksite (building and worker) information
  • Communicate with company supervisors and managers
  • Conduct effective house visits and one on one communication
  • Plan own work and make weekly and monthly plans from larger goals
  • Conduct worker and committee meetings, including developing meeting agendas
  • Track all open grievances


  • Commitment to social justice
  • Signing members up for COPE and mobilizing them for political action
  • Ability to multitask and effectively plan and implement work and manage time, as part of a team and individually
  • Ability to travel to all work sites and residences and work long and irregular hours
  • Experience and knowledge of computer programs (including word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheet
  • and database software)
  • Experience in labor organizing campaigns preferred
  • Spanish language fluency strongly preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English (this is necessary for contract and legal enforcement)
  • Driver’s license, current vehicle insurance, and reliable car


  • Salary is competitive and negotiable (based on the Staff Union Contract)
