General Counsel

IUE-CWA, the Industrial Division of the Communications Workers of America, is seeking a General Counsel. The position requires at least ten years of experience, preferably on the staff of an International Union or performing a traditional union-side practice for a law firm. The General Counsel advises the IUE-CWA President, directs and supervises the work of two staff attorneys and the department’s secretary, as well as advises IUE-CWA service staff in all traditional labor and employment law areas (NLRA, LMRDA, FMLA, etc.), in addition to the usual administrative duties of a legal department.

Since IUE is a division of CWA the person filling this position is also a CWA attorney with attorney-client responsibilities to CWA as a whole, reporting when necessary to the CWA General Counsel.

The position requires relocating to Dayton, Ohio, where IUE-CWA’s headquarters are located (relocation costs are subsidized by the Union). In addition to the qualifications above, the ideal candidate will be self-motivated, flexible, able to work with diverse groups, social justice-minded and willing to assist the entire IUE-CWA headquarters team as called upon to move the IUE-CWA agenda forward. Experience with the manufacturing sector is a plus. The position will require some travel. The position includes all of CWA’s generous employee benefits and will pay between $115,000 to $125,000, depending on experience.
