The LIUNA Mid-Atlantic Regional Organizing Coalition of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA!), the premier union in the building trades, is seeking a dedicated and creative Organizer to help our union organizing campaigns in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.

Job Title: Organizing Director

Salary: Commensurate with experience; all qualified candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop effective strategies for organizing workers and increasing membership using both a top-down and bottom-up approaches;
  • Prepare written plans and budgets for short- and long-term campaigns;
  • Executing long-term, multi-year strategic campaigns
  • Oversee, supervise, and manage a staff of 20-30 field organizers and researchers
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and collect activity reports regarding the activity of employees in the field
  • Contribute to the development of communications plans to workers
  • Prepare written reports to the managing Board of Delegates regarding the organization’s activities
  • Review expense reports and leave requests of subordinates
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with allied community and labor organizations to increase outreach and effectiveness
  • Coordinate with various local unions through the Mid-Atlantic Region
  • Prepare and present reports for conferences
  • Conduct annual evaluations of employees
  • Other duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Prior organizing experience required
  • College degree preferred
  • Spanish/English proficiency preferred
  • A car and a valid driver’s license are required.
  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Willingness to conduct house visits and site visits.
  • Experience in the construction industry is desirable
