Policy Analyst

The Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD) is seeking a Policy Analyst to help support its regulatory and legislative activities. TTD consists of 33 affiliated labor unions that represent workers employed in all modes of transportation. TTD primarily engages in legislative and policy advocacy before Congress, the Executive Branch, and independent agencies on transportation-related issues. TTD also promotes its agenda through media outreach and online advocacy.

The Policy Analyst’s primary responsibility will be to monitor and analyze federal regulatory developments that will impact transportation workers represented by our affiliated unions. As part of this responsibility, the Policy Analyst will be required to review the Federal Register to identify relevant regulatory notices and provide clear and concise summaries to TTD affiliates. The person will be responsible for tracking affiliate interest in pending regulations and working with TTD’s policy staff to draft written responses to regulatory actions when warranted.

As a secondary responsibility, the Policy Analyst will provide updates to TTD lobbyists on newly introduced legislation and relevant congressional markups and hearings. Please note that the Policy Analyst is not a lobbying position.

Excellent writing skills are mandatory for this position, and finalists will be asked to provide writing samples and complete a writing evaluation. Candidates should also be self-motivated and self-starting. Candidates should have at least two years of relevant experience. We are a small, fast-paced office and candidates must have the ability to handle multiple tasks and work on tight deadlines. The candidate must share the goals of the labor movement.
