ABOUT MAKE THE ROAD CONNECTICUT:
Make the Road Connecticut is a statewide organization that builds power of immigrants and low-income Latinx in Hartford and Bridgeport to achieve dignity and justice. We do this by community organizing, legal and survival services, transformative education, and policy innovation. We tackle the issues that directly impact our communities of color: immigration reform, economic justice, education equity, LGBTQ justice, womxn’s justice and youth justice.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Make the Road Connecticut seeks an energetic Bridgeport Community Organizer to join our team. This is a full-time position. The organizer prioritizes building our community base by recruiting and developing community members. The organizer will work through our committee model. The committees drive our work, and it’s the space where campaign and action planning, political education, and orientation to our organization takes place. Committee meetings are facilitated by members in coordination with the Organizer. The Bridgeport Community Organizer will be part of the organizing team lead by our Organizing Director. The Organizer’s primary responsibilities are to:

  • Conduct regular recruitment to expand the base of community members.
  • Engage MRCT’s leaders to support their outreach, education and other work that they are doing.
  • Facilitate committee meetings and work with members to facilitate meetings.
  • Develop popular education materials in conjunction with our campaigns and facilitate regular popular education workshops as part of committee meetings.
  • Develop testimonies with members for press, and work with directly impacted people to give testimonies that advance our campaigns.
  • Work with other MRCT committees to educate residents about their rights and prepare in case of an immigration raid or other incidents.
  • Work with the committee to develop and execute long and short-term campaigns and actions
  • Support the Bridgeport Rapid Response network of community members who are in immigration proceedings.
  • Identify new issue areas to organize in.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bridgeport Community Organizer must have the following:

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience organizing or a member leader with a membership-based organizing group and a proven track record organizing in immigrant, Latinx, and black communities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, community organizing, leadership development and the elevation of directly impacted and marginalized people to create change.
  • Speaking and writing in English/Spanish is required.
  • A car, driver’s license, car insurance is required.
  • Able to manage simultaneous projects in a fast-paced environment at a small but growing organization.
  • Ability to travel between Bridgeport and Hartford on a regular basis.

SALARY:
Competitive annual salary based on relevant work experience, education, and other factors. This is a full-time position that includes a generous benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance and 401K.
