Staff Representative

CWA Local 1014 is a progressive, social justice union that represents more than 1,500 County, City, and Township employees throughout Camden County, NJ.

CWA Local 1014 is seeking a Staff Representative with experience working with unions to organize workers to build power, represent workers in aspects of the grievance procedure, support daily office operations, provide support to the Local President, and perform administrative functions. The ideal candidate should be able to work both independently and in teams and handle multiple assignments meeting quality standard and specific deadlines.

Union Building:

  • Recruit, train, and work with shop stewards
  • Mobilize workers to fight for workplace justice


  • Serve on negotiations committees
  • Processing grievances
  • Advise members on workplace or contractual questions
  • Represent members in hearings

Union Administration:

  • Provide administrative support to Local President to assist on projects, campaigns, and daily workflow
  • Prepare and maintain financial transactions including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger
  • Prepare monthly financial reports
  • Work with Local Union Treasurer and accountants on monthly review for audits
  • Work with third party benefits administrator to oversee staff health benefits, retirement and fringe benefits
  • Maintain and services contracts with third party vendors and insurance carriers
  • Monitor, review and forward incoming emails from organization’s primary email account
  • Notify and coordinate with IT service vendor to address network issues and staff PC issues
  • Leasing/purchasing and maintenance of office equipment and supplies
  • Book locations and arrange logistics for off-site meetings, trainings and conferences
  • Oversees office space leasing, maintenance and cleaning
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Assist the Local President as needed


  • 3 to 5 years union experience
  • Experience negotiating contracts
  • Experience representing workers and enforcing collective bargaining agreements
  • Ability to work independently and set priorities to complete work in a timely manner and meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with staff and members at all levels of the organization
  • Bookkeeping and accounting skills are necessary
  • Knowledge and proficiency with MS Office Suite, specifically MS Access, Outlook, and Excel
  • Proficiency with bookkeeping software such as QuickBooks
  • Experience in dealing with third party vendors and contracts


  • Spanish fluency
