Summary Job Description:
The USW Political Program seeks to build power for USW members by developing and deploying successful, well-researched campaigns for pro-worker candidates at the local, state and federal levels. The successful candidate would work in a team environment to support the USW’s strategic work in these efforts.

Pay commensurate with experience and ranges between $65,438 - $100,158. Generous benefits package includes a defined benefit pension, 401(k), medical, dental and vision coverage along with other benefits.


  • The successful candidate will have a combination of education and experience that enables them to:
  • Work on campaigns and elections at the local, state and national levels, including voter targeting, volunteer recruitment, media, messaging, and research
  • Coordinate and oversee the work of field staff throughout the campaign cycle, while implementing clear benchmarks and accountability measures.
  • Encourage participation in the USW’s political action fund.
  • Develop, recommend and implement political campaign strategies that result in the election of pro-worker candidates.
  • Proactively monitor the political landscape to identify opportunities to further build power for USW members.
  • Produce thorough campaign research.
  • Prepare various communications including talking points, issue fliers and other educational material.
  • Develop and lead workshops and presentations for conferences.
  • Develop an effective understanding of the scope of USW’s membership, structure and political goals.
  • Interact with a diverse audience, including rank and file USW members.
  • Work effectively in a team environment.
  • Manage multiple priorities as well as keep track of and complete projects.
  • Work independently with USW rank and file members.
  • Understanding of and experience with the labor movement a plus.


  • Highly motivated and committed to the goals of the labor movement.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills.
  • Aptitude in Microsoft Office suite of products and ability to produce Power Point presentations, maintain or create Access databases and Excel spread sheets.
  • Experience with the Labor Action Network (LAN) or Voter Action Network (VAN).
  • Substantial work travel will be required during the campaign season.
  • Willingness and ability to work long, irregular hours, including weekends, when necessary.
  • Ability to speak Spanish a plus.
