Purpose: We are seeking a Director of Governance to support the work of the International President and to meet the governance needs of the International Union.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Working with Officers and senior staff to ensure compliance with the SEIU Constitution and Bylaws
  • Reports to the Chief of Staff and works under the Direction of the International President, Executive Vice Presidents and the Chief of Staff
  • Build relationships with and work alongside Local Unions to understand and meet their and their members' internal union needs
  • Implement decisions with a high-level collaboration and communication working with International Union officers and senior staff
  • Oversee SEIU's Regional Offices and Regional Office Managers, working with SEIU's Director of Operations.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university desirable but not required, and/or at least ten (10) years of related work experience in a union environment or a combination of education and experience that would provide for the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Comprehensive understanding of labor union governance and experience working within the legal and Constitutional structures that govern the operation of labor organizations
  • Experience in and understanding of SEIU local union operations
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability: to build, lead and drive equity and inclusion in diverse teams, listen intently, act decisively, set direction and lead others.
  • Ability to work effectively at all levels within SEIU and handle confidential information and situations;
  • Exercise the highest levels of judgement, diplomacy, confidentiality, and intellectual curiosity
  • Show Initiative and work independently, and exceptional organizational skills with the ability to determine priorities, manage multiple projects
  • Excellent analytic, research, verbal, written and presentation skills

Physical Requirements: Work is generally performed in an office setting. Some travel and extended hours required.
