Collective Bargaining Representative
Based in Brooklyn, NY
A labor organization of about 14,000 members, United Food and Commercial Workers Local 2013, located in Brooklyn, New York is seeking an experienced labor activist who excels at bargaining contracts under a myriad of challenges. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Managing and performing contract negotiations both on-line and in-person
- Developing proposals, writing Memorandums of Agreement and other pertinent documents
- Working with a bargaining committee; setting up prep/negotiations sessions either online or in-person
- Analyzing contract language and developing strategies to improve existing contract language
- Participating in effects bargaining when necessary
- Other duties as needed and assigned by Executive staff, not limited to field representation, if necessary.
REQUIREMENTS
- Team player who can work independently and professionally in a diverse environment and communicate effectively with staff, members and management
- Must have strong organization skills and be able to think quickly and resolve issues in a timely manner
- Knowledge of labor law for private sector workers in New York State, New York City and New Jersey including but not limited to the National Labor Relations Act.
- Must have five (5) years of experience working as a Business Agent, Union Representative (who has been involved in negotiations) or other bargaining position in a pro-labor setting
- Must be dedicated to the labor movement and have a commitment to fight for justice and workers’ rights
- Clean driving record
- Bilingual Spanish a plus but not required
- Knowledge of wage parity in the health care sector a plus but not required.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Salary based on years of experience. Full package includes comprehensive health, retirement and other fringe benefits.
