Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy (LAANE) is seeking a Community Organizer.

Founded in 1993, LAANE is a leading advocacy organization dedicated to building a new economy for all – with a focus on women, low-income communities, and people of color. Campaign Description: LAANE is currently seeking a full-time Community Organizer for our Quality Care Project focused on improving the working conditions in the skilled nursing facility sector in Los Angeles County. This project is newly developed and in partnership with Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 2015.

Position Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Project Director, the Community Organizer will be responsible for building and cultivating ally organization support for our campaign, and form a robust community coalition that will help organize around and mobilize for the passage of a proposed policy we seek to pass. We are seeking a qualified professional who will be able to work well with unions, community organizations, public agencies and elected officials. Additional responsibilities could also include supervising interns, program and training development, as well as legislative advocacy as needed. The Community Organizer will also work directly with the LAANE Communications Associate assigned to our Project. Reliable transportation is required.


  • Cultural competency and social justice values/work experience: A strong commitment to racial and economic justice and the labor movement; cultural humility and mindfulness; knowledge of skilled nursing facilities and their specific challenges is a plus, fluency in Spanish is ideal.
  • Excellent organizing strategy and campaign planning skills: Experience (2-5+ years) doing community and/or labor organizing, experience working with diverse communities (especially Black and/or Latinx communities) and a multi-racial coalition, working well under deadlines and pressure, detail-oriented, and methodical. Willingness to work longer hours and weekends when necessary.
  • Working as a leader within a team: Ability to work independently and collectively within a team, well organized, think proactively, possession of strong interpersonal communication skills, and emotional intelligence.
