Legislative Policy Analyst

Based in Latham, NY


Statewide Labor Union seeks an individual to fill the position of Legislative Policy Analyst. The Legislative Policy Analyst will provide research, legislative, data and policy analysis support.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive and efficient research using a variety of sources to provide quantitative and qualitative information on public higher education and public health care issues.
  • Review and evaluate policy proposals and legislation to determine if they are aligned with UUP goals and objectives.
  • Consult with internal and external stakeholders to ensure collaboration and inclusion of relevant information.
  • Communicate research results and policy analysis in an effective and useful manner.
  • Research and draft new policy proposals or amendments to existing policies for review.
  • Assist in budget analysis.
  • Develop high-quality internal and external materials that support UUP’s state and federal advocacy and outreach.
  • Assist with educating members to advocate and build political power.

A strong candidate will have:

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Experience with higher education and public health care related issues in New York
  • Experience with the New York State Legislature and Executive Branch.
  • Experience building meaningful relationships with a variety of constituencies (labor, political, and community).
  • Experience with the New York State legislative and budget process.
  • Ability to manage a workload with competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently to meet project deadlines.
  • Relevant research and/or organizing experience.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Excellent writing and communications skills.

This Management Confidential position is an on-site position in Latham, NY. Benefits are included. Minimal travel required (post-COVID). Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
