The Iron Workers International Union was formed on February 4, 1896, and the delegates on that day made a commitment to grow the organization by organizing all workers in the Iron working industry. That same commitment holds true today. The Iron Workers International is seeking the most talented Organizers in the labor movement as we expand our organizing department. The ideal candidate will work under the direction of the Director of Organizing and a core team of organizers in shaping the IW’s organizing strategies for multi-state and industry wide organizing initiatives in the manufacturing industry.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive organizing plans for manufacturing sector within the iron working industry.
  • Develop and staff external and internal organizing efforts, including direct actions, digital/social media platforms, events, and other tactics to move the campaigns forward.
  • Develop and implement workshops and trainings on organizing and leadership development for the organizing staff and member activists.
  • Serve as the primary point person for the collection and analysis of organizing data.
  • Work collaboratively with Ironworkers District Councils and Local Unions on the planning and implementation of joint organizing efforts.
  • Attend weekly meetings with leadership to discuss the progress and planning of organizing efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Three or more years of experience working as a union organizer, ideally in the manufacturing industry.
  • Demonstrated ability with successfully developing and implementing comprehensive internal and external organizing plans, including timelines, benchmarks, and milestones.
  • Demonstrated experience working with leaders and members to build strong organizing foundations.
  • Demonstrated expertise with organizing databases.
  • Written and oral communication skills and computer proficiency skills. Experience with digital organizing preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and within a group setting.
  • Valid driver’s license and a willingness to travel nationally, sometimes on long-term assignments.
  • Willingness to work long, irregular hours including evenings and weekends as required.
  • Proficiency or fluency in a second language is preferred.
  • A proven passion and dedication to worker advocacy and empowerment through union organizing.
  • Ability to work remotely within multiple states.

Salary and Benefits
Salary range $60,000.00 – $65,000.00 based on experience, plus daily per diem, Health Benefits, pension, vacation, and sick leave
