Field Political Mobilization Coordinator

Ohio Federation of Teachers (OFT), Local 8033 is a statewide union representing teachers, paraprofessionals, other professionals and more.

OFT is seeking a full time Field Political Mobilization Coordinator in Columbus, OH.

The Field Political Mobilization Coordinator will be responsible for working with the OFT Legislative and Political Action Director to strengthen the legislative and political field work of the Ohio Federation of Teachers and the AFT in Ohio.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an effective political program
  • Work with OFT staff to develop and implement a member mobilization program
  • Assist with coordinating OFT member engagement in federal elections and legislation
  • Assist locals with levies and school board races
  • Develop materials needed for grassroots political action
  • Develop and/or deliver trainings
  • Work with AFT to understand and implement available tools
  • Provide locals with political information
  • Manage digital advertising to support political campaigns
  • Increase OFT political fundraising
  • Conduct OFT’s candidate screenings
  • Represent OFT at AFL-CIO political meetings
  • Represent OFT at coalition meetings
  • Travel statewide to help locals with political duties
  • Attend OFT and AFT meetings and workshops as assigned
  • Assist Legislative and Political Action Director with responsibilities
  • Work with the national AFT political department as needed
  • Handle other assigned duties


  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Experience designing and implementing political action or union grass roots activities
  • Ability to speak and present to various size audiences
  • Independent project management skills
  • Ability to work with people from a wide range of backgrounds
  • Ability to listen actively and frame issues
  • Experience in unions or other social justice organizations
  • Engagement in the political process
  • Demonstrated ability to write and speak effectively
  • General computer literacy and proficiency in basic data management
  • Social media skills
  • Willingness to work long hours and participate in union-wide activities
  • Knowledge of PreK-16 education, healthcare and labor issues preferred
  • Experience with LAN/VAN

Position is a bargaining unit position.

Salary based upon years of experience. Minimum salary is $51,349.
