We are a democratic, progressive labor union representing writers of motion pictures, television, radio, and Internet programming, including news and documentaries. Founded in 1933, the Guild negotiates and administers contracts that protect the creative and economic rights of its members. We are involved in a wide range of programs that advance the interests of writers, and active in public policy and legislative matters on the local, national, and international levels.

Job Description
The Coordinator II supports the work of a busy organizing department working to build member power in a landscape of corporate consolidation and technological change. The position reports to the Director of Member Organizing, but supports the work of all department staff. This position is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly) position with excellent comprehensive benefits package. Compensation is commensurate with experience.

Essential Functions

  • Provide administrative support to the Director of Member Organizing and Department staff including preparation and submission of department timesheets, expense reports, mileage reimbursements, invoices and member communications.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and coordination of departmental programs, initiatives and campaigns including the WGA New Member Program.
  • Research and/or communicate with potential mentors, panelists and program attendees, as needed.
  • Plan, coordinate and manage meetings and events both on and off-site including logistical support and negotiating with vendors. Run tech for Zoom/BlueJeans remote meetings and take notes as needed.
  • Responsible for Department email accounts, phone lines, survey and Zoom/BlueJeans Host accounts.
  • Provide information to members and non-members about the Guild and its contracts, including inquiries and matters that are confidential or sensitive.
  • Track, enter and manage information in databases and run reports as needed.
  • Maintain Member Organizing files and folders.
  • Undertake research projects and prepare reports as needed.
  • Coordinate annual special events including the Animation Writers Caucus Award, Comic-Con and Austin Film Festival panels and receptions.
  • Interact effectively with other Guild departments.

Minimum Requirements

  • Prior administrative experience
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision once projects are assigned
  • Ability to navigate complex political situations with discretion required.
  • Proficiency in MSWord and Excel and experience hosting remote meetings
  • Experience with Survey Monkey and MailChimp applications a plus
  • Ability to travel and work weekends and evenings as required
  • Valid California driver’s license and reliable insured automobile for business use
  • Labor Union background preferred
  • Knowledge of the entertainment industry a plus.

The WGAW is currently operating remotely, but the position is based in Los Angeles when in-office work is able to resume based on state and local public health guidelines.
