Staff Representative

CWA Local 1032 is a progressive statewide public-sector union in New Jersey representing over 5,000 blue-collar, white-collar, professional, and supervisory workers in nearly 50 bargaining units. We are committed to building the union through organizing, representation, and political/community action.

CWA Local 1032 is seeking a candidate for a full-time Staff Representative position to start immediately; this is a hands-on position that will work daily with shop stewards and the membership. Only persons with extensive experience in contract negotiations, grievance handling, and arbitration should apply; unless you have these qualifications, your résumé will not be considered, so please do not apply. Bilingual Spanish preferred. Job duties include:

• Contract enforcement, including grievance handling, disciplinary appeals, and arbitrations
• Internal organizing and membership development
• Negotiating collective bargaining agreements, including developing proposals in consultation with the bargaining committee
• Establishing/maintaining a local steward structure at worksites includes identifying, training, and developing worksite leaders
• Conducting worksite meetings and maintaining regular communication with stewards and membership
• All aspects of member mobilization, including for contract campaigns and the Local’s broader political program
• Participation in political, community, and other union events/programs

Starting salary is commensurate with experience and in accordance with the staff union contract. Comprehensive benefits package includes medical plan, pension plan with employer contribution, and benefit leave time.

Our office is in Ewing, NJ, but position would be based with extensive driving throughout the northern part of NJ, and other areas as assigned. Valid driver’s license and car with insurance required.
