Campaign Manager

Overview of Responsibilities:
The Campaign Manager, working in partnership with the GA AFL-CIO, AFL-CIO, Central and Area Labor Federations, Affiliates and Allies develops strategic year-round mobilization campaigns to support the federations’ goals. The Campaign Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of assigned electoral, legislative, issue and related campaigns, as well as comprehensive campaigns in support of union organizing and collective bargaining.

The Campaign Manager works under the supervision of the State Federation.

Description of Duties:

  • Work with State Federation leadership to determine campaign goals.
  • Report and keep State Federation leadership fully informed on all issues affecting Georgia State Federation and its affiliates.
  • Work with unions along with progressive and political allies and community groups to develop shared goals and strategy around campaigns that benefit the federation.
  • Develop and implement strategic issue and electoral campaigns in the field that support the State Federation’s overall objectives.
  • Conceptualize and construct the campaign plan including the drafting of the campaign budget, work plan and overall timeline.
  • Manage overall campaign operations while coordinating the integration and assignment of State Federation resources for simultaneous campaigns.
  • Coordinate with respective State Federation staff to develop strategic alliances with labor and non-labor partners in support of campaign’s broader objectives.
  • Establish accountability systems to ensure that campaign goals are met, including the
  • implementation of post-campaign debriefs and assessments.
  • Develop and implement strategies to streamline resources to support campaign activity and to avoid duplicative campaign work.
  • Prepare and submit regular and ad hoc reports as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred with a minimum of 5 years of campaign experience coordinating all aspects of a campaign including or at least 5-7 years of prior experience coordinating all aspects of issue, organizing or political campaigns including demonstrated success as a campaign manager.
  • Extensive experience putting together campaign strategy including plan writing and budgets, be able to use all tools necessary including but not limited to data, analytics, media (earned, online) and field.
  •  Experience reading and using qualitative and quantitative research (e.g., polling and focus groups) as well as microtargeting/modeling to inform campaign strategy.
  • Thorough understanding and experience of the Voter Action Network (VAN) or Vote Builder, Labor Activation Network (LAN).
  • Willingness to sign and honor an agreement protecting the integrity of union and partner data.
  • Experience in field mobilization including direct voter/member contact (canvassing, phone banks, or worksite organizing) as well as event planning, execution and turnout for events large and small.
  • Experience working in politically sensitive situations with demonstrated diplomacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage teams with varying levels of experience and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the labor movement.
  • Knowledge of collective bargaining campaigns and union representation campaigns preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the electoral, legislative and related processes at federal, state and local levels.
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts while maintaining important and effective relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in politically sensitive and high-pressure environments. Effective time management skills, including prioritizing and managing multiple tasks, and demonstrated experience in developing campaign and personal work plans and goals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; writing sample required which includes portion of a plan or past plan used for a campaign
  • Ability to travel within the state on a regular basis as needed
