SEIU Local 503, Oregon: Now Hiring an External Organizer – Portland Oregon!

SEIU Local 503 is Oregon's healthcare and public services workers’ union. We are part of the 2 million member Service Employees International Union (SEIU), committed to building power for working class people and winning on the social and economic justice issues facing working class families, from affordable housing to immigrant rights. We wage big campaigns to win higher wages, healthcare and job security to help ensure that workers win the just fruits of their labor.

Organizer Job Opening:
Organizers identify, recruit and develop leaders to change the power dynamics at work. This position has responsibility for organizing through worker and community leadership development. Organizers build power by organizing non-union workers with a focus on one-on-one conversations, house visits and developing community support to win organizing campaigns.

Requirements: A minimum two years’ experience or background demonstrating capabilities in organizing, leadership identification and development, and motivating people to take action; a demonstrated commitment to building the power of workers; and willingness to work irregular and long hours and to attend weekend and evening activities. Valid driver’s license and automobile are required.

Applicants with bilingual skills are strongly encouraged to apply, especially Spanish, Vietnamese, Amharic, and Russian speakers. Applicants with working-class job experience who know firsthand about the conditions that need to change for low-income workers are strongly encouraged to apply.

Pay and Benefits: Organizing positions provide comprehensive fully paid health, dental and vision benefits for employee and eligible dependents, domestic partner benefits, generous holiday and vacation policies, a monthly car and cell phone allowance, and a 15% employer-paid defined contribution 401K. Compensation range is based on experience $57,804 – $85,920 annually.
