Temporary Organizer
Based in Burbank, CA
DESCRIPTION:
The Organizer will work with professional musicians on a contract campaign for negotiations with major media corporations scheduled that is for this winter. This is a temporary position through the end of 2022, with a possibility of future employment.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Lead planning, strategy, and implementation of organizing drives.
- Work with researchers to identify and assess potential organizing targets.
- Work with the communications department to implement comprehensive campaign components.
- Work with parent organization, American Federation of Musicians, to coordinate campaign actions outside of the state and acquire any additional resources needed to implement organizing drives.
REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of:
- Computer programs: Microsoft Office, email and internet search tools.
- Organizing methodology.
- Labor law, especially with respect to union organizing
Ability to:
- Establish and cultivate respectful relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Discern priorities and meet competing deadlines.
- Listen, write, and verbally communicate at a high comprehension level
- Quickly and efficiently build a professional team atmosphere while meeting tight deadlines with conflicting demands in a fast-paced environment.
- Understand and commit to AFM Local 47’s members and mission.
- Independently implement overall union goals and expectations in a competent and professional manner.
- Must be able to drive, maintain a valid driver’s license, and travel as needed.
Experience:
- Preferably, 2 to 5 years of experience as a union organizer.
- Leading or supervising internal and external organizing campaigns.
- Experience developing strategic organizing plans.
SALARY and TERM:
Salary: Commensurate based on experience
Term: Through the end of 2022, or earlier, if contract is ratified before December 31st (2 weeks notice).
