The University of Connecticut Chapter of the American Association of University Professors (UConn-AAUP) is the exclusive bargaining representative of the faculty at the University of Connecticut. UConn-AAUP is one of many collective bargaining and advocacy chapters of the AAUP across the country.
Job Description
This is a full-time position with the UCONN-AAUP Chapter in Storrs, CT.
The Internal Organizer will be responsible for building and then supporting a representative assembly that was established by the Chapter. When fully functional, the assembly will create a network of active members engaged in supporting the Chapter in various campaigns, including a contract campaign and membership development/educational campaign. The successful candidate will also be responsible for developing a comprehensive internal communication plan to members and for outside relational work with coalitions and other AAUP chapters.
Job Duties:

Build and sustain a member network through the representative assembly

Act as an organizer and make contact with newly hired UConn-AAUP bargaining unit members

Recruit and train new members for leadership in the Chapter

Use social media platforms to effectively communicate with members

Assess members for activist engagement

Provide leadership and organizing teams with data reports

Encourage attendance at Chapter activities

Collaborate with leaders and organizers of other campus groups

Be responsible for implementing projects, programs and campaigns as assigned

Update the Executive Committee on progress of projects, programs and campaigns

Attend staff meetings, Executive Committee meetings and Chapter meetings

Stayed informed of National AAUP activities and organizing campaigns
Qualifications

Experience working in higher education with faculty preferred

Knowledge, experience and training in organizing
-
Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Advanced social media and computer skills
-
Internal organizing for membership building, leadership development, and contract negotiations
