Regional Director

ABOUT IFPTE Local 21: Local 21 is a progressive, innovative, growing union of more than 10,000 professional government employees in major jurisdictions throughout Northern California.
The Regional Director will supervise union staff members in a specific region of IFPTE Local 21. The Director will report to the Field Director to oversee the union’s program on contract negotiations and campaigns, internal organizing, leadership recruitment and development, representation, and political mobilization.
RESPONSIBILITIES: All duties listed are required, but not limited to, and may or may not be continuously performed or ongoing at any specific time.
- Work with the leadership and staff to create and implement plans to strengthen the union.
- Lead and assist in developing campaign plans around budget issues, contract negotiations, and worksite problems.
- Serve as the Chief Spokesperson in larger chapter negotiations and assist staff in contract negotiations in the smaller chapters.
- Ensure staff and member participation in the union’s organizing and political programs.
- Manage, train and develop the internal field staff of a specific region. Conduct staff meetings, team meetings, and individual meetings with staff to support and review and plan their work.
- Work with staff and members to develop their leadership skills and coordinate the work of the union.
- Represent the union in the region in its relationships with political, community, and labor leaders and organizations.
- Serve on the staff leadership team of the local.
- Coordinate with other senior staff to run the programs of the organization under the leadership of the rank-and-file executive board.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least five years as a union staff person responsible for representation and program implementation.
- Experience negotiating collective bargaining agreements and developing and executing contract campaigns.
- Proven ability to integrate racial and gender justice.
- Experience motivating, supporting, managing, evaluating, and developing staff and holding them accountable to a campaign & workplan.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of member leaders and involve them in every aspect of the union’s program.
- Strong planning skills, ability to discern priorities, and manage multiple responsibilities.
- Strategic vision and direction to connect workplace fights to social issues impacting communities.
- Possess proven leadership and consensus-building skills.
- Willingness to work long and irregular hours, including weekends and evenings.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
