POSITION: Occupational Safety Professional/ Industrial Hygienist (Worker Training Program)
HOURS: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
LOCATION: Washington, DC

We are seeking a highly motivated Industrial Hygienist in comprehensive practice to provide technical and regulatory health and safety support to Teamster members and affiliates. The position reports to the Program Manager of the IBT Worker Training Program.

Specific duties include:

  • Develop and update safety and health training curricula for hazardous waste worker training, transportation safety, and apprenticeship programs
  • Responds to requests for information from trainers and staff regarding technical subjects concerning environmental and occupational safety and health issues
  • Develop, administer, and analyze surveys to collect relevant data concerning the training programs and respective training target audiences
  • Conduct research on topics relevant to the training programs
  • Develop technical and regulatory material for use in instructor development programs
  • Conduct training seminars on technical and regulatory subjects for instructors and staff
  • Conduct audits of training courses to ensure that the training curricula are appropriate for the training audience
  • Conduct audits and evaluations of instructors and trainers who provide program training
  • Develop web-based training curricula for online courses and online training modules

Requirements:

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in Occupational Health and Safety/Industrial Hygiene and/or transportation safety
  • Knowledge of Federal and State regulations on occupational safety and health
  • Can create and develop communication materials and work products relevant to the audience
  • Possess excellent public speaking, writing, organizational, and communication skills
  • Able to travel up to 20% (including some weekends)
  • Knowledge of common IH sampling equipment
  • Ability to use various technical computer software packages
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor
  • Bilingual (Spanish) speakers or technical writers strongly encouraged to apply

Positive Education Requirements:

  • Masters of Science in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health, Safety Engineering, or related field
  • CIH/CSP or equivalent, or eligibility to obtain professional certification in occupational safety and health
