Executive Director

Based in Orange County, CA


The executive director, under the direction of the NMFT Union President and Executive Board, will provide union leadership while advancing the interests of bargaining unit members of the NMFT Local 1794, Union of Educators.

NMFT seeks an exceptional and experienced individual who will embrace the NMFT’s efforts in maintaining and continuing to build a strong and collaborative union. The Executive Director will assist with implementing and advancing the membership and goals of the union organization while exhibiting commitment to social justice values.

Exemplary Leader and Organizer

  • A proven leader and organizer with tenacity who supports, respects, empowers, and encourages the contributions of all NMFT and Executive Board members.
  • Organize activities to grow and strengthen the membership, including responding to the needs of a changing membership.
  • Assist in maintaining, interpreting, and enforcing all bargaining unit contracts.
  • Assist in negotiating collective bargaining contracts for NMFT, including designing and conducting member contract surveys, and collecting research related to labor contracts.

Strong Communicator

  • An effective communicator who listens openly and carefully, who is inclusive and approachable, who demonstrates flexibility and creativity in problem solving and can build consensus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to assist with negotiation updates and other communications with the membership.
  • Assist in preparing grievances, unfair labor practice charges, and represent
  • members at the direction of the president.


  • A creative thinker with skills in both collective bargaining and solving issues with the goal of resolving issues prior to having to go to grievance/arbitration.
  • Collaborate with CFT and AFT, other labor and community organizations in mutual efforts benefiting our members.
  • Work in collaboration with President and Executive Board to develop strategic planning sessions.

Desired Education & Experience:

  • Possession of a bachelor’s degree.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in labor organizing, contract negotiations, union representation, and other related union work.
  • Ability to handle fast paced and high-pressure environments.
  • In lieu of above: demonstrated transferable education or work-experience skills.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of public education law, structures, and polices.
  • Professional work experience in a public K-12 school district.
  • Demonstrate effective analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural,
  • disabled, and ethnic backgrounds of K-12 employees and students.

The current salary range is $75,681 – $125,245. Benefits include medical and dental, generous paid sick and vacation leave. and a 401k retirement plan with employer contribution. Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience and education.
