The Union has approximately 460 staff in sixteen offices from Boston to Miami. 32BJ SEIU represents over 175,000 property service workers including janitors, security officers, airport workers, and food service employees in 11 states and Washington, DC. 32BJ is an affiliate of SEIU, the Service Employees International Union, which has 2 million members dedicated to raising industry standards and making life better for all working families and communities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
We currently seek a Field Representative to help build power for property services members. The Field Representative will work primarily with security officers who work in commercial office buildings, higher education institutions, and other types of worksites. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Identify the issues of groups of workers and individual workers at work sites;
• Effectively communicate in house calls, site visits, and group meetings;
• Identify and develop shop stewards and/or worksite leaders, and build effective member committees;
• Organize workers to take action on problems at work and in the community;
• Expand activist base of the union by connecting members to a variety of activities;
• Make and execute weekly work plans to support the work of the Union;
• Coordinate rallies, strikes, and other actions;
• Work with Grievance Center staff to ensure coordinated delivery of services to members;

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
While no one candidate will possess every quality outlined for this position, the successful candidate will bring many of the following professional skills and personal attributes:

• Strong organizational skills with ability to manage and prioritize work subject to deadlines in a dynamic environment, both individually and as a team member;
• Demonstrated commitment working for social justice;
• Ability to lead, motivate, and inspire members to develop into leaders and participate in key union programs including political, representation, bargaining and organizing;
• Computer skills including MS Office/Outlook and ability to learn union tools including field app and database.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• This position is a full time position that occasionally requires work outside normal business hours, including some nights, weekends and holidays.
• This position is based in the Boston, MA office.
• This position requires travel to worksites.
• Valid driver’s license and car with insurance required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• This position requires traveling to worksites and participating in events, marches and demonstrations

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The salary for this role is $62,879. 32BJ provides a benefits package that includes employer-paid medical, dental and vision plan, for full-time employees and their qualified dependents. We offer retirement benefits, including a defined benefit pension plan and 401K. This position provides a car stipend in accordance with policy. 32BJ offers paid time off including three weeks’ vacation, eleven holidays, twelve sick days and four personal days. The Union currently offers a remote work policy of one remote day per week at the discretion of the manager. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
