Since 1977, the Professional Aviation Safety Specialists, AFL-CIO (PASS) has represented more than 11,000 employees of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Department of Defense (DoD) who install, maintain, support and certify air traffic control and national defense equipment, inspect and oversee the commercial and general aviation industries, develop flight procedures, and perform quality analyses of complex aviation systems used in air traffic control and national defense in the United States and abroad.

PASS is seeking someone to serve as an Organizer assigned to its national office in Washington, D.C. The organizer’s focus will be on internal and external organizing campaigns aimed at growing union membership and the current PASS bargaining units. The position will report to the Director of Organizing and Member Education and work alongside elected leadership and union activists to develop and execute campaign plans and provide training.

DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Identify, recruit, motivate and train workers to participate in union organizing
  • Coordinate membership drives
  • Assist in developing and executing campaign plans
  • Assist in identifying organizing targets
  • Educate members and potential members about their union, benefits of joining, etc.
  • Attend regular leadership, membership meetings and new hire orientations
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of membership applications and data
  • Prepare materials for various trainings (contract representatives, chapter officers, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Interest in labor organizing; 1-2 years of experience preferred
  • Commitment to building a strong, democratic union
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Ability to regularly attend meetings and have one-on-one conversations with members and potential members
  • Ability to train and motivate union activists and organizing committee members
  • Computer literacy
  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours
  • Ability to travel regularly when required.
