The Director of Professional Practice is a high-profile member of ONA’s leadership team and is the primary staff member overseeing ONA’s engagement with professional development, scope of practice, patient and worker safety, healthcare quality outcomes, and regulations.

The Director is responsible for planning the department’s activities based on the strategic needs of ONA and our members, implementation of those activities, evaluation of programs and activities at a state-wide level, supervision of staff, and ensuring that ONA is seen as a leader in the state in the areas of nursing practice and professional development.

The core competencies of this state-wide position include high profile content expertise (scope of practice, ANCC NCPD Accreditation, OSBN rules and regulations, Oregon’s staffing law, etc.), leadership (consultation, mentoring, coaching, provision of services with individual members, diverse groups of members and other stakeholder groups around the areas of nursing practice, healthcare regulation and safety, education and research, etc.), the ability to support ONA initiatives such as legislative efforts, facilitation of continuing professional development opportunities, and event planning, among others.


  • BSN required and an advanced degree in nursing, law, health administration or related field (including a PhD, EdD or DNP) preferred.
  • Maintain unencumbered RN license in Oregon.
  • Ten (10) years of experience in direct and indirect nursing care and organizational leadership (or equivalent knowledge, skills and competency in a specialty nursing area.)

This is a full time, exempt position.

ONA offers an annual starting salary range of $135,000-160,000 annually depending on experience.

ONA also offers an exceptional benefits package including employer contributions (90%) to medical, dental and vision premiums, as well as employer paid long and short-term disability and life insurance. Opportunity to enroll in 401K plan after 6 months of employment which includes a 3% employer contribution, up to a 4% match, with additional longevity contributions after 5 years. Annual PTO is 25 vacation days, 8 personal days and 12 sick leave days.
