Position Description:
The Graphic Designer/Production Designer supports the activities of the Communications Department by producing and designing creative deliverables and other materials in support of UFCW organizing, collective bargaining and political efforts.

Work is assigned by the Communications Director and Communications Assistant Directors, Managers and project leads. The Graphic Designer/Production Designer will be expected to collaborate with other Communications team members, internal departments and external stakeholders such as regional and local offices to provide creative deliverables that are compelling and persuasive for a variety of projects and organizing and political campaigns.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned. This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented.

  • Collaborates with other members of the creative and digital teams to conceptualize, plan, and create innovative and attention-grabbing visual online and offline campaign materials, marketing collateral, and digital properties.
  • Generate graphics for print (mail pieces, event and program flyers, brochures, large format signage, booklets, newsletters, visual props) and digital media (emails, web graphics, social, ads, infographics).
  • Develops comprehensive design packages for organizing campaigns.
  • Creates, reviews, manages, and prepares final production-ready art files for print and/or digital.
  • Collaborates with internal UFCW International departments and external regional and local offices on creation and production of creative deliverables as needed.
  • Prepares and organizes photos for uploading into our Digital Asset Management (DAM) system.
  • Inspects design and image files for proper formatting and apply file naming and tagging according to UFCW standards and best practices.

Duties, responsibilities and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time, in the UFCW’s discretion. UFCW employees function as a team and, occasionally, and on a temporary basis, employees may be required to perform tasks usually performed by others. This might occur if a team member is absent or unavailable to complete a project and the team is responsible for the deadline. Because employees are required to work as a team, you are required to step up and fill in for a team member who is absent or needs assistance from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field. At least 3 years’ experience as a graphic designer, or related role. Strong experience in designing digital content for websites, social media, and/or email campaigns. Fluency in videography and proficiency in video editing software (Premiere, Final Cut Pro). Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel), WordPress CMS and photography.

Communications Skills
Effective communication and collaboration skills. Must be comfortable working independently or collaboratively.

Computer/Software Skills
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite/Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop). Must be well- versed in print and digital production techniques.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required

  • Meticulous attention to detail, deadline-oriented, and strong project management skillset. Ability to conceive, develop, and execute art designs, layouts, and illustrations.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of design composition, typography and color theory. Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have image retouching capabilities.
  • Ability to work from initial concept to final production stages.
  • Ability to work irregular or unpredictable hours, travel frequently and at the last minute.

Job Demands
Work often is performed under stressful situations, with multiple projects occurring simultaneously under deadline. Irregular or unpredictable hours are required. Frequent and last- minute travel is necessary.

Working Conditions
The work is performed is in a normal office environment and sometimes outside. The noise level in the work environment is from moderate to very loud.

Physical Demands
This position involves, but is not limited to, written and oral communications skills, use of computer keyboard, close vision, sitting for long periods, stooping, bending and reaching.
