ROLE DESCRIPTION
32BJ SEIU is currently seeking a full-time Research Analyst, who may be stationed in either Miami, FL, or New York City. This role is vital to bolstering the Union's organizing campaigns, both internally and externally. The Research Department plays a vital role in Union campaigns by conducting research and developing and implementing strategies and tactics to advance campaign goals. The opening is for a single position, with the title—Researcher, Research Analyst, or Research Analyst II—contingent upon the candidate's level of experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drive the development of Florida campaign strategy and execution of key research pieces of campaigns/projects, coordinating closely with other staff
  • Conduct research at the individual, corporate and industry levels utilizing a wide variety of primary and secondary sources
  • Transform research findings to create and execute work plans that advance campaign goals
  • Write documents for different audiences including technical in-depth white papers, talking points, testimony, and information for workers
  • Conduct power analysis to formulate corporate and legislative strategies
  • Serve as union-expert for questions related to the real estate industry, worker issues, regulations, procurement processes, and service companies
  • Lead or collaborate in field research efforts such as designing surveys, conducting interviews with low-wage workers, and drafting regulatory or legal complaints
  • Work closely with legal staff to ensure compliance for campaign pieces
  • Develop relationships with subject-matter technical experts and community partners

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will be self-directed, driven to deliver results, proficient in research & analysis, and have a proven ability to apply research to campaign strategy. While a candidate may not possess every quality outlined for this position, the successful candidate will bring many of the following professional skills and experiences:

  • Two years of applied research professional experience. Relevant experience may be drawn from diverse fields such as field research, corporate research, data analysis, financial analysis, employment law, or investigative journalism. Experience with corporate research or research related to labor are a plus but not required.
  • A highly motivated self-starter with attention to detail and accuracy who is able to drive work projects independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
  • Ability to work well under tight deadlines and managing competing priorities.
  • Exceptional writing skills including the ability to distill complex information and draft well-written documents for a variety of audiences.
  • Possess a robust commitment to progressive social change, with a focus on racial justice and inclusion, as well as a deep commitment to winning for workers.
  • A passion for fostering strong connections with colleagues, both union and non-union workers, external allies, many from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to speak Spanish is preferred but not required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The position occasionally requires hours outside of business hours, including some nights and weekends
  • The position is largely office/computer based with frequent in-person and Zoom meetings. On occasion you will attend rallies and marches.
  • Travel requirements: For individuals based in Florida, occasional travel may be necessary. Conversely, for those whose primary location is New York, frequent trips to Florida should be anticipated.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The organization is seeking a candidate for a position that will be designated as Researcher, Research Analyst, or Research Analyst II based on the individual's experience. The respective annual salaries for these roles are set at:

  • Researcher: $63,314
  • Research analyst: $68,211
  • Research analyst II: $75,466

32BJ offers a generous benefits package that includes a fully employer-paid medical, dental and vision plan (for full-time employees and their qualified dependents) and retirement benefits, including a defined benefit pension plan and 401K. 32BJ offers paid time off including three weeks’ vacation, eleven holidays, twelve sick days and, after the first year of service, four personal days. The union currently offers a remote work policy of one remote day per week at the discretion of the manager.
