Assistant Member Program Director

Based in Kent, WA

 

The position is responsible for supporting internal teams in and out of campaigns, supporting the union’s strategic plan and helping to coordinate the collective bargaining priorities of the union. This position reports to an Officer. This position will serve as part of the Senior Leadership team within SEIU Healthcare 1199NW.

Primary Responsibilities:
This position requires someone with bargaining, campaign development and experience leading bargaining teams and organizers.

  • Oversees and directs the work of staff for some internal teams.
  • Assist in directing bargaining campaigns to build organizational leadership and advance the union’s bargaining priorities, helps to track and support the standardization of best practices in contracts across the union.
  • Using leadership identification, recruitment, development, and training the Assistant Member Program Director supervises staff in developing and maintaining active leadership committees including bargaining teams.
  • Develops uniform standards for review and evaluation of campaigns.
  • Provides direction, staff development and disciplinary action (if needed) to staff on some internal teams.
  • Supports the collective bargaining work of the union by assisting lead negotiators with standard language proposals.
  • Contributes to and leads staff trainings.
  • Works in partnership with Officers to develop campaign plans and goals.
  • Partners with different departments across the union, including Communications, New Organizing, Political Action, and Legal to build power for SEIU Healthcare 1199NW members and healthcare workers.
  • Build effective teams to advance the mission of SEIU Healthcare 1199NW including building a militant union to win racial justice and end poverty wage work.

Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Union staff person with increasing responsibilities.
  • Experience leading bargaining campaigns.
  • Familiarity and knowledge in regard to PERC, NLRB.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as demonstrated by the ability to relate, establish and cultivate respectful relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Adept at leading and motivating workers in necessary struggles.
  • Effective demonstrable oral, written and listening skills.
  • Excellent analytical and judgement skills as demonstrable by the ability to assess information and evidence and act strategically.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills showing flexibility as needed; adept at dealing with conflicting/changing priorities.
  • Working knowledge of computer programs including Word, e-mail, accessing the Internet, and UnionWare.
  • Previous experience leading staff and skills related to staff development.
  • The Member Program Director is required to work long and varying hours including weekends, nights and holidays. Driving long distances for extended periods of time is also required. Travel both statewide and out of state with overnights and periods away from home may be required.
  • Valid driver’s license, automobile insurance and a working automobile required.
