The mission of the Labor Network for Sustainability (LNS) is to be a relentless force for urgent, science-based climate action by building a powerful labor-climate movement to secure an ecologically sustainable and economically just future where everyone can make a living on a living planet.

Job Description
The Young Worker Organizer is an enthusiastic organizer that possesses the skill set to cultivate trusted and collaborative relationships with young workers, organizers, and activists across social movements. The Young Worker Organizer understands the challenges of bridging the labor and climate movements. The young worker organizer must possess the ability to recruit young workers, across the labor, climate, and environmental movements. THe young worker organizer must establish relationships, and train young workers to better understand the complexities of the labor, climate, and EJ movements, utilizing a progressive curriculum that deepens knowledge, and sharpens organizing skill.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Organize young workers and activists to build a powerful labor-climate movement
  • Develop and implement strategies to engage young workers on climate issues across movement spaces
  • Cultivating relationships and expanding organizing skills sets with young workers, while building further relationships with climate, and environmental organizations, and other social movement organizations
  • Conduct research and analysis on the impact of climate change on young workers
  • Manage the release of the Young Worker Report
  • Work with others to develop curriculum, and deliver trainings and workshops for young workers on climate change and labor rights
  • Organize and participate in direct actions, protests, and other forms of collective action
  • Represent LNS at conferences, events, and other public speaking engagements
  • Facilitation of a large volunteer and activist based project. Coaching, and mentoring project participants
  • Collaborate with other LNS staff to develop and implement the organization's strategic plan

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in Labor organizing or activism
  • Understanding of climate change and its impact on workers
  • Understanding the political culture and structure of the U.S. Labor Movement (Unions, Workers Centers, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to initiate a work plan
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Commitment to social justice, and principled struggle

Compensation and Benefits
This position is represented by the Washington-Baltimore News Guild, CWA Local 32035. The salary range is $75,000 – $90,000. We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance, unlimited time off, and a 35-hour work week. This is a full-time, remote position, with occasional travel required.
