Temporary, Part-Time Apprenticeship Readiness MC3 Educator

Introduction
Texas is experiencing an unprecedented clean energy transition that will create tens of thousands of new jobs over the next decade. Texas Climate Jobs Project is seeking a passionate and dedicated Apprenticeship Readiness MC3 Educator to lead a grant-funded apprenticeship readiness course designed to empower underserved populations by providing access to postsecondary education and preparing them for careers that promote financial stability and career growth in the skilled trades. The educator will administer a 3-week curriculum encompassing apprenticeship readiness: the MC3, Multi-Craft Core Curriculum, a nationally recognized curriculum created by NABTU, North America’s Building Trades Unions.

Overview of the Organization
The mission of the Texas Climate Jobs Project is to advance a pro-climate, pro-worker agenda in Texas. Through innovative research and policy development; popular education; community engagement; advocacy; workforce development; and strategic coalition building and partnerships, Texas Climate Jobs Project is engaging in collective action to win substantive policy changes that both protect the climate and create good local jobs.

Our statewide workforce development program is based on the nationally recognized construction curriculum, Multi-Craft Core Curriculum (MC3). MC3 is a 120-hour course created by North America’s Building Trades Unions and it is designed to introduce students to the building trades; the value of apprenticeship readiness; and help them decide on a career path in the construction trades. MC3 adheres to core learning objectives around construction math, construction tools, and financial literacy, along with other themes that prepare students for union construction apprenticeship programs. As MC3 Educator, you will lead students through their course, establishing and communicating clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.

The Job:
The Apprenticeship Readiness MC3 Educator will develop curriculum materials to teach and guide diverse cohorts of underserved individuals through the comprehensive MC3 curriculum and program. This program aims to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to pursue successful careers in the construction trades. The educator will play a vital role in empowering students, creating and fostering a positive learning environment, and supporting their journey toward apprenticeship and career readiness.

The apprenticeship readiness MC3 Educator’s core responsibilities will include:

Become certified as an MC3 trainer. The MC3 Educator will undergo training from TradesFutures to be equipped with the resources and curriculum materials necessary to shape and administer an engaging MC3 course.

Develop and deliver an engaging curriculum for the apprenticeship readiness program, focusing on construction trades and apprenticeship readiness. Create engaging and effective lesson plans that cover essential topics including but not limited to construction math, professionalism/job readiness, technical skills, financial literacy, and green construction.

Additional responsibilities associated with the apprenticeship readiness program include:

Hands-On Learning: Work with the workforce development team to coordinate visits to different training centers to provide practical, hands-on experience in various construction trades.

Career and Life Preparation: Facilitate workshops and training sessions on resume building, interview skills, workplace etiquette, financial literacy, etc.

Industry Expert Insights: Coordinate with the Workforce Development Program Coordinator to incorporate opportunities for students to hear directly from labor and construction industry experts to foster industry awareness.

Strengthen Community Partnerships: Introduce community partners and facilitate ongoing interactions to establish a strong rapport between program participants and community resources.

Other Duties and Responsibilities as Assigned

Interested candidates should have the following qualifications:

  • Teaching Experience: Minimum of one year of teaching or training experience and developing curriculum, preferably with adult learners or underserved populations.
  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with registered apprenticeships and the construction industry is a plus. Experience with career and technical education is preferred.
  • Flexibility: Willingness and ability to travel regionally across the state to teach at apprenticeship training centers.
  • Passion: A leader for empowering underserved communities and helping individuals achieve financial stability through education and training.
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with the project team to achieve shared goals and objectives.
  • Effective Communication: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Tech Savvy: Proficient in using Google Suite. Comfortable with learning new data management systems for program compliance.

Hourly Rate: $30 per hour, maximum of 29 hours of work per week, with competitive benefits including retirement, cell phone stipend, earned paid sick time (one hour of sick time per twenty hours worked), and a one-time $500 health care stipend. Required availability for approximately 3.5 weeks to account for the length of training and MC3 course instruction. This is a grant-funded position expected to end in January 2025; with the possibility of continuation contingent on additional grant funding for this position at that time. This is a temporary, part-time position, and is a bargaining unit position with Teamsters Local 988.
