Assistant to the Manager
Based in Massachusetts
The New England Joint Board, UNITE HERE, located at 33 Harrison Ave in Boston, is the affiliate of UNITE HERE in the six New England states and New York, representing workers in the manufacturing, warehousing, laundry, food service, disability service, textile, and garment industries. Included in our membership are workers from UNITE HERE predecessor unions ILGWU, ACTWU and UNITE as well as members originally organized under the UNITE HERE banner. We are a bold progressive union at the forefront of the movement for economic and social justice. Women and immigrants make up a majority of our membership.
Responsibilities and Duties: Provide and coordinate support to the Manager of the New England Joint Board by:
- Prioritizing the flow of information to the Manager. Tracking/monitoring Manager’s projects to completion
- Drafting collective bargaining proposals, tentative agreements, and Memoranda of Agreement
- Drafting, editing, and incorporating new contract language into existing collective bargaining agreements
- Collecting and organizing arbitration files and filing arbitrations with appropriate agencies
- Handling and directing incoming and outgoing communication from the Manager’s office
- Maintaining an organized filing system of paper and electronic documents
- Scheduling meetings and appointments
- Booking and managing travel itineraries
- Preparing reports desired by the Manager
- Maintaining membership, officer, and staff contact and census information
- Recording meeting discussions and provide minutes
- Handling and responding to inquiries and complaints received by the Manager’s office
- Arranging union events and meetings both in and outside of the office
- Assisting with direct mailings to membership
- Assisting with assembly of lists and ballots for union elections and contract ratifications
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Manager
Qualifications, Abilities and Experience:
- Experience managing the office of the top officer of an organization
- Thorough attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, Outlook, Apple Calendar, web browsers
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Ability to communicate and relate easily with a diverse staff and membership
- Ability to exercise strong problem solving skills
- A commitment to social and economic justice and knowledge of the Labor Movement
- Bilingual skills highly desirable
