About you:
Applicants should have a passion for social justice organizing and recognize that child care is a pillar of the economy. This will involve working with child care workers from across the state, with a focus in the greater Puget Sound region. This is a full time project field position working with a diverse statewide membership. A driver’s license and a car is required.

What is the job?

  • Researching the internal structure and financials of a corporate, public, or non-profit employer
  • Engaging with workers through site visits, interviews, surveys, networking, attending public meetings and industry events
  • Creating accessible research presentations and data sets for a wide variety of audiences, including childcare workers
  • Analyzing union density in various markets to help identify potential organizing targets
  • Researching and tracking public funding
  • Assisting in the building of worker lists for the purposes of organizing, using data scraping of online directories, public records requests, and other methods
  • Assisting in the creation and maintenance of data systems and standards for the campaign
  • Assisting in the creation and maintenance of coherent, accessible campaign and training documentation

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a field such as public policy, economics, business, or a social science
  • A demonstrated commitment to social, racial, and economic justice
  • Experience in collaborating on strategic/corporate campaigns in support of organizing and/or bargaining
  • Excellent writing and communication skills;
  • Experience with a variety of computer-based research tools; proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Quantitative analytical skills, including familiarity with basic financial concepts and financial analysis
  • Ability to work well under tight deadlines with multiple, shifting priorities, and a willingness to pivot with little notice
  • Willingness to work long, irregular hours, often including evenings and weekends

Compensation:
Salary and benefits are set by collective bargaining agreement. Starting pay depends on experience, with a range of $68,305 - $100,842/year. Benefits include fully employer-paid family health, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, pension, a generous leave package, car allowance, and other benefits outlined in the policies of the SEIU Local 925/PNWSU union contract.

This position will require evening and weekend work. The main SEIU 925 office is in Seattle, but our members are statewide, and this position may be asked for short term travel as the campaign requires. A driver’s license, a car and proof of insurance, proof of COVID-19 vaccination, and a passion for organized labor power are required.
