Position Overview:
The Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF) and its affiliate, Metro IAF, are hiring Organizers dedicated to empowering communities and building power from the ground up. Organizers will work directly with diverse communities to identify local leaders, develop organizing teams, and drive change on pressing local issues. This hands-on role requires direct engagement with residents, community leaders, and member institutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Community Building: Identify, recruit, and develop relationships with community leaders, encouraging them to take active roles in local initiatives.
  • Organizing Teams: Form and support organizing teams in member institutions, helping them identify key issues and launch campaigns to address them.
  • Campaign Strategy: Collaborate with community leaders to design and execute targeted, action-oriented campaigns on issues like affordable housing, criminal justice reform, and healthcare.
  • Training and Mentorship: Provide training in organizing skills to community leaders, fostering their development and strengthening community resilience.
  • Fundraising and Sustainability: Secure resources and raise funds to support organizing efforts and expand the reach of campaigns.
  • Collaborative Engagement: Work across racial, religious, and political lines to bring together people from varied backgrounds to work on common goals.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a passion for justice, a willingness to work in diverse settings, and a track record of leadership or community involvement. Experience in organizing, teaching, activism, or community service is preferred, but not required.
