Collective Bargaining Negotiator / Representative

For covering Washington

 

The Union of American Physicians and Dentists (AFSCME local 206) is a nationwide union representing more than 7,000 Attending Physicians, Resident Physicians, Dentists, Advance Registered Nurse Practitioners, Physicians Assistants, and more. In Washington State, we represent five hospitals and over 50 clinic locations, and we are rapidly growing. Our members are front line healthcare professionals who are forming unions to bolster advocacy for each other as well as their patients.

The majority of this work will be in Washington state with some periods of extended travel possible.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a Negotiator/Representative position with some organizer duties.

Example of responsibilities:

  • Leading the bargaining teams at the table and in the field.
  • Maintaining and updating group wide WhatsApp Chats to facilitate member engagement.
  • Skills with electronic record keeping is a must.
  • Develop and train bargaining teams to become effective.
  • Develop and run contract action teams.
  • Working independently and with small teams.
  • Representing member and contract enforcement. This includes answering member questions in a timely fashion.
  • Participating in new organizing campaigns.
  • Multi tasking and performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to building long-term power for physicians and providers.
  • Background in labor and organizing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write reports, make presentations, facilitate meetings, and conduct training sessions as needed.
  • Highly skilled in Excel data management software and electronic record management.
  • Private sector union experience required.
  • Must have experience in bargaining contracts and playing a key role in union campaigns.
  • Knowledge of bargaining first (1st) contracts is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, work with a team, and to handle a fast-paced environment and multiple projects.
  • Ability to maintain good working relations with diverse membership and staff.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours and participate in all union wide activities.
  • Willingness to travel and work in different locations for determined periods of time.
  • You must possess a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and an automobile for business use.

SALARY & BENEFITS
Starting pay depends on experience, with a range of $70,000 - $100,000 with a benefits package including health, dental and vision insurance, pension plan, 401k, 3 weeks of vacation time in the first year, life insurance, comp time, sick leave, 13 holidays, phone allowance, mileage reimbursement and more.
