THE OPPORTUNITY
The SEIU-Community Clinics Partnership is seeking its first Director who will be a collaborative leader with strong strategic, relational and operational skills to:
- Deepen and help develop the first ever labor management partnership in the community clinic sector of California’s health care industry.
- Contribute to advancing health care for our most vulnerable communities, support worker voice, and work in partnership toward greater equity and justice.
- Support the Leadership Team of the SEIU-Community Clinics, a recently formed non-profit organization and Labor Management Cooperation Committee (LMCC) comprised of participating local unions of the Service Employees International Union and Federally Qualified Health Centers across California.
JOB SUMMARY
Working collaboratively with the Leadership Team of the SEIU-Community Clinics Partnership, and reporting to the LMCC Trustees, the Director will:
- Support the development of the Partnership’s strategy and lead its implementation, including project management of key commitments, priorities & workplans.
- Coordinate and help facilitate meetings of the Partnership, including the LMCC Trustees, Leadership Team, and Workgroups.
- Coordinate efforts with any contractors and any staff assigned to the Partnership from participating Partner organizations.
- Solidify organizational infrastructure, providing day-to-day administration of operations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The Director will be a seasoned and emotionally intelligent leader with exceptional communication skills who takes initiative and accountability for driving outcomes and values collaborative working relationships. In addition, the ideal candidate would have:
- 7–10 years of professional experience in health care, labor, workforce development, public policy affecting any of the above, and/or non-profit organizational management,
- With at least 3 years in senior leadership positions, and preferably at least 2 years building out a start-up, mission-driven venture or sustained campaign.
- Experience and confidence facilitating within a highly matrixed organization with leaders from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
- Experience managing contractors and other professionals assigned to projects
- Ability to maintain policies and ensure financial, legal and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to be a self-starter and manage own time and responsibilities confidently.
OPTIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT STATUS:
The Partnership is looking for the most qualified person to fill this initial Director role and as such is open to various ways that work to secure the best talent. This could include:
- Direct Hire by the SEIU-Community Clinics LMM (initially as sole employee)
- Contractor – for at least 18 months to establish the position & duties
- Dedicated Staff – deployed from a participating Partner Organization of the LMCC
Any of the above options will be governed by the applicable laws and regulations for such employment, contractual relationship, or deployed staff from another employer.
Role will be less than full-time with expectation of 25 – 30 hours a week or ~ 120 hours per month, with possibility of full-time over time.
COMPENSATION:
- The salary is competitive / commensurate with experience (Guaranteed Initial funding supports ~ $100k / year range + benefits)

LOCATION:
This position is hybrid, with the majority of work able to be completed remotely, but the Director will also have an office based in one of the following areas: Sacramento, Oakland, or Los Angeles. Periodic but not extensive travel is expected as may be needed for specific projects and/or execute duties effectively, including in-person leadership meetings and strategic retreats.
