We are seeking a dynamic and talented Assistant Director of Human Resources to support our diverse organization. This is a hybrid/office-based position in New York City, providing an exciting opportunity to make an impact with our gifted healthcare professionals.
POSITION SUMMARY: As the Assistant Director of Human Resources, you will assist the HR Director in overseeing HR functions and operations, with a primary responsibility for staff recruitment, onboarding and retention. This role also involves acting as a liaison with external providers for benefits, managing payroll data, ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations, maintaining employee records, and addressing employee relations matters. The choice Asst. HR Director should attract the best candidates, improve and strengthen HR processes, and help to support morale and retention.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of talented candidates for open positions
- Collaborates with hiring managers to create/update job descriptions for open positions, understand their needs and ensure a smooth hiring process; manages all job postings.
- Conducts background checks, employee eligibility verifications and confirms citizenship status
- Serves as the primary liaison for benefits administration with benefits providers, ensuring employees have access to comprehensive programs.
- Evaluates and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This includes aptitude exams and certifications.
- Handles employment inquiries, manages performance documentation, and provides coaching to department managers to improve engagement and productivity.
- Maintains accurate and professional HR records, including employee files, as well as administration required for benefits, staff leaves and performance management.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and ensures that NYSNA remains current and up to date on changing laws.
- Analyzes HR trends and metrics, performs data analysis, and provides actionable insights to support organizational goals
- Assists in shaping HR policies and implementing best practices aligned with the healthcare and nursing sectors.
- Promote and uphold NYSNA’s culture of inclusivity. Implement initiatives to increase staff engagement and stimulate a positive work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in HR, Business, or a related field
- SHRM certification a plus
- 7 years of diverse experience in Human Resources
- 3+ years’ experience in roles such as Generalist, or Assistant Director
- Talent acquisition and recruitment expertise required
- Knowledge of employment laws and regulations, preferably in NY State
- Very organized and detail oriented
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Cultural awareness and sensitivity
- Ability to adapt to change, learn quickly, and excel in a "roll up your sleeves" environment
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice desired

Salary range is based upon Union salary scale of $105,000 – $120,000 depending upon education and experience
