Executive Director
Based in Cheyenne, WY
The Executive Director is a full-time executive officer of Wyoming AFL-CIO. The Wyoming AFL-CIO is part of the nationwide labor movement and is part of the 12-million-member AFL-CIO. The Executive Director reports directly to the Executive Board and the President of the Wyoming AFL-CIO.
Currently, Wyoming has the lowest union density, the highest gender pay gap, and the highest rate of workplace fatalities (most years) in the United States. The State is full of opportunities to assist workers who would benefit from the ability to bargain collectively. This is the best path for some Wyoming workers to obtain fair pay and benefits.
The Executive Director’s primary mission will be to assist workers achieve fair pay, improve benefits and create more career quality jobs for Wyoming workers. The Executive Director will travel around the State to build a workers’ movement and to collaborate with legislators, affiliate labor organizations, and potential industry partners. During the Wyoming legislative session, the Executive Director works closely with the President and serves as the voice of working people among the elected leaders in Cheyenne.
The Executive Director will work closely with the Wyoming Executive Board as well as with union leaders, elected officials, allies and partners and representatives of the national AFL-CIO.
JOB DUTIES:
- Bring Unions into the Wyoming AFL-CIO
- Assist potential future union workers in contacting a Local Union with proper jurisdiction.
- Managing projects to improve working conditions
- Maintain positive working relationships while representing the Wyoming AFL-CIO to governmental agencies, legislatures, professional organizations, community groups, and other entities around the State and Nationally
- Manages the budget and financial reporting
- Monthly board reports
- Manages the office and building leases
- Supervises and trains all employees
- Implements and assists in the development of policies and procedures
- Represents the Wyoming AFL-CIO at the Wyoming Legislature
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required. Minimum of two to four years related leadership experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certifications, Licenses, and Other Special Requirements
Must have a valid driver license.
Knowledge and Skills
- Experience in organizing, recruiting or mobilizing people to achieve a goal,
- Demonstrated written and verbal competency,
- Ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple tasks and people,
- Demonstrated understanding of organizing labor unions and political coalitions,
- Competency in technology products to include Microsoft Office Suite, QuickBooks, and other databases as required.
