Organizing Manager

POSITION TITLE: Organizing Manager
DATE: December 9, 2024
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Director of Field Operations (DFO)
Supervisory Duties:
This position supervises a team of Organizers, a Lead Organizer, an Administrative Assistant and Researchers. Responsible for coordinating the work of staff in external organizing, strategic research and other duties as assigned by the Director of Field Operations.
Scope:
The Organizing Manager reports directly to the Director of Field Operations and is responsible for the coordination of activities and programs of the Department.
The role shall execute the operational and strategic priorities for the department:
- Directs the Lead Organizer and Organizing in the design and implementation of external organizing campaigns.
- Under the supervision of the DFO, supervise, assign work and evaluate all Organizers.
- Help develop the skill set of Organizers for internal and external organizing.
- Direct work of the organizing Administrative Assistant to help support the needs of the field.
- Provides direction, staff development and disciplinary action (if needed).
- Provide initial and ongoing orientation to new department staff, including overseeing staff progress through the probationary period.
- Implement, as approved, effective procedures and supporting policies intended to facilitate the achievement of labor programs and services.
- Conduct regular meetings of the organizing staff and report outcomes of meetings to DFO on a regularly scheduled basis.
- Consult with the DFO in drafting the organizing department’s annual budget.
- Prepare and submit various program reports as scheduled or requested by the DFO to
- provide an accurate reflection of organizing program activity.
- Review and advise DFO and executive leadership staff and officers on all external campaigns.
- Participate in management meetings and functions.
- Other duties as assigned
Skills and Abilities for Assignment:
- 3+ years of union experience required.
- This is an entry-level management position. Union management or lead experience is preferred.
- Demonstrated skills in the areas of external organizing, internal organizing, training, communication, facilitation, strategic analysis, and planning.
- Advanced knowledge of worker’s rights.
- Work effectively independently and as a group with members and staff from diverse ethnic, social and economic groups.
- Ability to adapt, take direction, and execute tasks with short timelines.
- Exercise excellent judgment while working under pressure.
- Exercise confidentiality.
- Establish and uphold organizational priorities, standards, and values.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to teach and mentor others.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office 360.

- Ability to understand the complex needs of a diverse membership.
- Proven ability to develop staff and leaders.
- Must be available for travel.
- Must have a driver’s license and a working automobile.
Working Conditions:
The role requires long and irregular hours, with work on weekends and holidays when necessary.
Salary and Benefits: Starting salary of $98,161, dependent on experience, with generous benefits including defined benefit pension, 401K matching, 100% employer paid single and low-cost family health insurance coverage, vacation, sick, and personal days and paid holidays. MNA is an EEO/AA Employer.
