Industrial Hygienist

Based in Washington, DC

 

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) is seeking a highly motivated Industrial Hygienist in comprehensive practice to provide technical and regulatory health & safety support to Teamster members and affiliates. The position reports to the Director of the IBT Warehouse Division.

The successful candidate will (1) have a strong technical background in occupations safety & health and/or transportation safety; (2) create and develop communication materials and work products related to technical, regulatory, and policy issues that are relevant to the Union; (3) possess excellent public speaking and presentation skills; and (4) have comprehensive knowledge of Federal and State regulations relating to occupational safety & health.

Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct workshops, seminars, and meetings on occupational safety and health topics to Teamster membership
  • Draft comments and testimony on safety and health related technical, regulatory, and policy issues
  • Respond to requests for information from various trade divisions regarding environmental and occupational safety and health issues
  • Provide technical assistance, verbally and in writing, to IBT and Local Union administration on environmental and occupational safety and health issues
  • Conduct comprehensive and focused industrial hygiene/safety surveys at the request of affiliates and write reports detailing the results
  • Participate and represent the IBT at meetings with OSHA, NIOSH, DOT, etc.
  • Act as the technical SME on matters of occupational safety and health within designated industrial sectors as assigned

  • Knowledge of common IH sampling equipment
  • Ability to use various technical computer software packages
  • Ability to travel up to 20% (including some weekends)
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance
  • Bilingual (Spanish) speakers strongly encouraged to apply

Education Requirement:

  • Master of Science in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Safety Engineering or related field
  • CIH / CSP or equivalent, or eligibility to obtain professional certification in occupational safety and health

The salary range for this position is $77,157.00 – $131,871.00, commensurate with experience and education. The IBT offers a generous total compensation package, including 100% employer-paid health & welfare plan, a pension plan, optional 401(k) participation, FICA reimbursement, and vacation & sick leave plans.
