Bilingual Regional Member Communicator

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Regional Member Communicator plays a key role on the communications team, reporting to the Regional Communications Manager for the Capital Area and Pennsylvania Districts. This position focuses on driving member communications, creating materials that promote key campaigns in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Washington DC, Virginia, and Maryland.

The ideal candidate is a strategic, creative thinker and a skilled multi-tasker who can effectively use various communication tools.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Lead regional member communications, ensuring consistent messaging.
  • Develop strategies to enhance member engagement and participation in union activities.
  • Collaborate with regional leaders and campaign directors on strategy and planning.
  • Manage a calendar of regional communications aligned with union-wide priorities.
  • Write, edit, design, and oversee translations of member materials.
  • Use text, email, and other tools to share information on union activities.
  • Develop member and worker spokespeople for effective communication.
  • Coordinate with vendors (photographers, videographers, designers) as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years of experience in communications or campaign management, ideally in labor, advocacy, or non-profits.
  • Experience in strategic communications planning and capacity building in large organizations.
  • Proven project management skills in fast-paced, campaign-driven environments.
  • Strong ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience navigating large organizations and working in teams.
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to write clearly and persuasively.
  • Proficiency with communication software and a willingness to learn new tools.
  • Commitment to social and economic justice, particularly with union members, low-wage, and immigrant communities.
  • Strong team player with a collaborative approach.
  • Required fluency in written and verbal Spanish, including translation skills.
  • Preference for candidates with design experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • This position is a full-time position that occasionally requires hours outside normal business hours, including some nights, weekends and holidays.
  • This position is based in the Washington, DC office.
  • This position requires occasional travel to worksites throughout Pennsylvania and the Capital Region.
  • This position is largely computer/office based, with many in-person and Zoom meetings.
  • This position requires traveling to worksites and participating in events, marches and demonstrations.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
The salary for this role is $75,000- $80,000. 32BJ offers a full benefits package that includes a fully employer-paid medical, dental and vision plan, for full-time employees and their qualified dependents. We offer retirement benefits, including both a defined benefit pension plan and 401K. The Union currently offers a remote work policy of one remote day per week at the discretion of the manager.
