Job Title: External Organizing Director
Location: CA
Job Classification: Full-time, Permanent, Non-Union, Exempt
Salary: $127,106.66- $151,772.00
PURPOSE
We are currently seeking a Statewide External Organizing Director, reporting directly to the Local’s Deputy Director of Growth and Organization. The External Organizing Director position requires a high level of judgment, leadership, and commitment to achieving the local’s vision and goals. You will be responsible for developing and implementing creative organizing strategies to organize non-union workers to join the union, and to generate support from allies (students and community members) to support our campaigns.
Responsibilities include:
- Create and implement dynamic strategic power-building and external organizing campaign plans to organize non-union workers into the union
- Train, develop, and manage external organizing staff, including External Lead Organizer and External Organizers.
- Develop and sustain relationships with key allies and participate in coalition spaces to advance organizing efforts.
- Plan, coordinate and implement organizing support programs, including database management.
- Work closely with other departments in our union to Identify organizing targets, goals, both long-term and short-term
- Identify opportunities for growth, including key pressure points to achieve overall union power building objectives.
Required Qualifications and Skills include:
- Demonstrated passion and perseverance to bring challenging campaigns to success
- Experience developing and driving escalating comprehensive organizing campaigns
- Capacity to build relationships with people from diverse backgrounds
- Experience building diverse coalitions to support organizing campaigns
- Effective communication skills – listening, spoken, and written
- 5 years’ experience in successfully leading organizing campaigns
- 7 years’ experience leading or supervising multiple staff, assignments, projects, managing timelines, and effectively using database systems.
- Demonstrated commitment to justice for working families
Additional Requirements:
- Extended day and occasional overnight travel.
- Willingness to work long and irregular hours, including nights and weekends.
- Must possess a valid California driver's license, auto insurance with business coverage, and an automobile for business use.
- Bilingual (Spanish, Cantonese/Mandarin, Tagalog) preferred
Physical Requirements (as required by ADA)
Work is performed in a variety of employment settings. Driving, travel, temporary assignments, irregular and extended work hours are required. Valid driver’s license and car required.
